“THE CONTRIBUTION OF THE HELLENIC ASSOCIATION OF MUNICIPALITIES WITH CURATIVE SPRINGS IN THE CURATIVE MEDICINE”
If we try to review the relationship between medicine and the curative springs in Greece during the last decades, it is certain that the result is not satisfactory. We have to admit that Greek general practitioners – with only few exceptions – didn’t use and continue not to use the Greek Curative Natural Resources as an alternative and complementary treatment, as it happens in many countries abroad.
It is a fact the Greek GP was never convinced for the usefulness of the curative springs, and this partially makes sense, as there is no university department devoted to the curative natural resources for about the last 50 years. Since 1953, when the Clinical Hydrology and Climatotherapy Chair was abolished from the University of Athens, the relationship between the academic world and the curative springs’ world ceased to exist.
However, there were a lot of doctors and other scientists that continued to work on the curative natural resources of our country and to provide evidences for the quality and the usefulness of the Greek curative springs as an alternative treatment.
